The primary purpose of this course is to give students an understanding of the role that the United States Navy has played in its nation’s history, both in times of peace and in times of war, from 1775 to present day. Additionally, the course will cover the early development of sea power and its effect on world events. Finally, the course will discuss the continued importance of sea power and the many roles of the United States Navy from warfighting entity to international maritime peacekeeper to foreign policy instrument.
2 Units: Two hours of lecture per week for 10 weeks. Course is offered in the Spring semester.
